Northamptonshire Schools MUGA Pitches

Prestige Sports Pitches won the Interserve contract to construct new Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGAs) as part of a comprehensive upgrade of primary school sports facilities in Northamptonshire.

Type 2 MUGA surfaces were laid. Each school’s requirements differed, depending on their ground and drainage conditions. Several required impermeable tarmacadam surfaces; others incorporated an open-textured, porous surface, laid onto a type-3 aggregate sub-base.

Storm water drainage options included:

  • fall construction, draining to a linear channel feeding into a soakaway
  • diffuser into mains storm water drainage
  • check-dams to control the flow and discharge of water
  • flow control chamber to attenuation tank.

Surface areas varied from 500m2 to 1200m2 and sports facilitated included netball, five-a -side and football training
