Multi-Use Games Areas MUGA

We design and install all types of Multi-Use Games Areas MUGA – popular and versatile pitches or courts suitable for playing a variety of sports. There are 5 categories of MUGA. Each has its own set of criteria and specifications for construction and play quality in order to meet the requirements of governing bodies such as Sport England, FIFA, EH, FIH and the FA.

Types 1 and 2 are Tarmac surfaces designed for different priority sports, Type 1 for tennis and basketball and Type 2 for netball. Types 3 and 4 are polymeric (synthetic rubber) surfaces, again designed for different priority sports due to differences in shock absorbency and slip resistance. Type 3 has a netball and athletics priority and Type 4 is better for 5-a-side football and basketball. Type 5 is an artificial grass or astro-turf MUGA, constructed using either a 3G carpet or a sand-based surface.

Fencing and lighting requirements for MUGAs are dependent on the sports to be played and recommendations are specific to each project. MUGA construction costs are also specific to each project but start at approximately £40/m2. We give free estimates and would be delighted to help you with your project.
